Contest Details

The competition is open to Nigerians from age of 10 to 65. All Nigerians with the drive for a change are encouraged to participate, including students, academics, NGO leaders, and professionals from business or policy. We are looking for Essays from these categories:

Essay topic for Primary School: Should a thief be punished for wrong-doing or protected?

Essay topic for Secondary/High School: Should society protect those that stole our common future?

Essay topic for Undergraduate, Graduate, Post-Graduate, Ph.D, and Professionals: Immunity clause for political office holders: Retention, review or removal?

Submission

Format:
Submit your Essay in only one of the following formats: (a) a written essay, preferably as a Microsoft Word file attachment; or (b) a 3 minute video, uploaded to YouTube, with the link shared in your mail ; or (c) a 3 minute audio recording in mp3 format. Longer submissions will be disqualified. Essays must be between 500-3000 words in length and start with a 2-5 sentences summary, all-inclusive – i.e. including all bodies of text, titles, headings, tables, textboxes, footnotes, endnotes, references, appendices etc. – and must not exceed 5 pages in total.

The following information must be provided at the top of the first page of the Essay: (a) the names of the Participant(s) submitting the Essay (b) the final word count (all-inclusive).

Submission deadline: December 15, 2017.

Late submissions will be disqualified automatically.

Language: The Essay must be in English Language

Selection Criteria

Essays will be judged based on the following Judging Criteria: (1) Clarity and boldness; (2) Creativity and originality; (3) Persuasive advocacy; (4) Potential for impact.

A panel will review the submissions and select the top Essays.

Winning applicants will be… and winning Essays will be featured on CIAN’s website and Publications.

Winners and honorable mentions will be announced by March 27th, 2018.

Prizes

  • 1st best entries will each receive an IPAD, cash prizes, and a 4-week attachment at the World Bank Nigeria office.
  • 2st best entries will each receive an IPAD, cash prizes, and a 4-week attachment at the World Bank Nigeria office.
  • The 2rd best entry will get a cash prize and a month’s attachment at the World Bank Nigeria Office.
  • The 4th and 5th best entries will receive cash prizes.

Terms & Conditions

Submissions must be original and well-written in English.

  • Submission deadline is 31st January, 2018. Late submissions will be automatically disqualified.
  • The Essay length should be between 500-3000 words at most. Longer entries will be disqualified.
  • Only one submission per entrant will be allowed.
  • CIAN reserves the right to research and verify the eligibility of any entrants, and the decision of the organization shall be final.
  • By entering the contest, participants agree to release CIAN from any claims based on the contest, and grant CIAN all rights to their entry, including consent to publish their Essays on the CIAN’s website and social media channels.
  • Failure to comply with these rules may result in disqualification from the contest. Essay entrants agree to comply with and be bound by the decisions of CIAN, which are final and binding on all matters pertaining to this competition.
